Yesterday, during one of our leisurely fall afternoon walks, Matt and I came across Provenance Regional Cuisine. Formerly, owned by Chef Alex Johnson, Provenance Regional Cuisine is a small grocery store with a lot to offer. The shop provides a select variety of locally sourced and sustainable foods from Ontario family farms and producers. Recently, renowned Canadian chef Jamie Kennedy took over as director of the store (Alex worked alongside Jamie at Gilead Cafe).
Provenance offers prepared and semi-prepared foods, preserves, and seasonal produce graciously provided by Jamie’s farm. The store atmosphere was truly welcoming despite the small size. The girl behind the counter was amazingly friendly and had a true passion for the food. A fellow customer struck up a conversation and gave us tips for cooking up the two semi-prepared skirt steaks we purchased. We can’t wait to go back!
